Bhubaneswar (TF Bureau): Odisha cabinet today unanimously passed a resolution approving ‘Bande Utkala Janani’ as state anthem. The patriotic song was written by Kantakabi Laxmikant Mohapatra.
The cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, was held through a video conference at Lok Seva building here where only one proposal was passed.
The Chief Minister attended the meeting through video conferencing from Naveen Niwas while other ministers and administrative officials were present at the Lok Seva building.
“Bande Utkala Janani” has been recognized as the state anthem at an important meeting of the state cabinet held today. The state cabinet meeting approved the ‘Bande Utkala Janani’ proposal for state anthem, the CM informed.
Since 1912, the song has been sung in various occasions in state. It has been in the minds of the people since the formation of the separate Utkala Pradesh.
The song “Bande Utkala Janani” was last sung on the evening of May 30 owing call by the Chief Minister to pay tribute to the Covid 19 warriors.
The creation of Kantakabi Laxmikant Mohapatra has been accepted as the state anthem. The recorded version of the song will be prepared by the state Department of Information and Public Relations.
It will be sung at assembly sessions, government events, schools, colleges, opening and closing ceremonies. Everyone will stand up while singing. Older and physically challenged people will sit in respect of the music.
There will be no restrictions on the growth of music promotion. The Department of Higher Education and the Department of Schools and Mass Education have been instructed to incorporate ‘Bande Utkala Janani’ song into the curriculum of schools and colleges.
