Bhubaneswar (TF Bureau): While the ruling Biju Janata Dal is in the line of fire of the Opposition parties in Odisha, the former dismissed the allegations of large-scale corruption in the procurement of masks.
BJD spokesperson Dr Sasmit Patra outright rejected the allegations leveled by the Opposition in procurement of the medical consumables and safety equipment.
“At no point of time has Odisha purchased masks at more than the rate fixed by the Government of India. Therefore any question regarding irregularity does not arise,” Patra said.
The parliamentarian lashed out at the BJP and Congress for doing petty politics during the COVID19 pandemic situation.
“Corona is a worldwide pandemic, it’s a medical emergency. The war is not yet over. This situation requires a mature response. We expect the same from Congress and BJP. The entire country is praising the efforts of Odisha in COVID management, we urge the Congress and BJP not to do cheap politics and belittle the efforts of 4.5 crore people of Odisha,” he stated.
The OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik had accused the government of massive corruption in purchase of masks and PPEs. He went on to demand a reply from the Chief Minister on the issue.
Speaking on similar lines, BJP state unit president Sameer Mohanty also accused the government of misappropriating funds.
