Communist leader Gananath Patra no more
Rourkela (TF Bureau): Eminent Communist leader and Advisor to Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha (CMAS) Gananath Patra passed away at his residence at Abinashpali in Saranagari here today. He was 79.
He was suffering from protracted illness since past few months.
He had been staying at his Rourkela residence after his release from Choudwar Circle Jail in 2012. He was arrested for spearheading farmers’ movement and allegedly waging war against the nation.
After abduction of then Malkangiri Collector R Vineel Krishna in 2011, Maoists had demanded release of their jailed comrades including Gananath Patra.
The Communist leader had given up his teaching job and joined the Maoist movement in the state.
He is survived by wife, a son and daughter. His wife was also a teacher.
