Covid-19 deaths rise in Odisha so as positive cases
Bhubaneswar (TF Bureau): Odisha witnessed a spike in Covid-19 deaths and positive cases in the past couple of days fuelling speculation of community spread.
In the last two days, the state reported as many as five deaths and over 500 positive cases. Worse, local cases have been reported from places considered as Covid19 hotspots. As a result of this, containment zones have been declared in several districts.
The district administration in Ganjam had restricted visit of people to government offices to contain spread of the deadly virus. Today, Jajpur administration imposed similar restriction with spurt in cases in recent days.
With two deaths reported from Ganjam today, the toll has risen to 23 and the positive cases are inching towards the 7000 mark.
Now, all 30 districts are affected by the SARS-COV2 virus. On the other hand, the death rate is 0.33% whereas in India its 10 times more i.e, 3%. Similarly, state’s recovery rate is 69.15% as compared to India’s 58.6%.
The frontline workers and COVID warriors have contracted the infection, heightening worries of the state government.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today helmed a meeting with District Collectors and Superintendent of Police (SPs) through video conference seeking suggestions to takle the situation.
Patnaik also advised the top officials to take measures to prevent the frontline workers from getting infected.
Several police personnel, nurses and hospital staff have been infected too.
