Bhubaneswar: Agriculture Minister Arun Sahoo today claimed that the percentage of ineligible beneficiaries under KALIA scheme is negligible.
“Less than one percent people have received KALIA money which is very few. The money will be back to government’s kitty,” Minister Arun Sahu said.
In the first phase, over 51 lakh people had availed KALIA assistance money. Of them, around 40,000 are large farmers, government employees, pensioners and minors.
The scheme is meant for small, marginal, landless and sharecropping farmers.
While the government transferred the amount directly to the beneficiary account, it has the farmers’ database through which it can appraoach them to return the amount.
After several rounds of scrutiny, 51.05 lakh beneficiaries were identified. Later around one lakh farmers had opted out of the scheme.
Besides, around 40,000 affluent farmers have approached to return the amount, sources said.
