OTV office stands on encroached land!
Bhubaneswar (TF Bureau): It seems the skeletons of corruption are tumbling out of OTV’s closet with each passing day. The latest allegation is of land encroachment in one of the prime locations in the capital city where the No. 1 television channel’s headquarters has been built.
As per official sources, the private TV channel has encroached 12980 sq ft land around the land allotted to it by IDCO.
Based on allegations, the channel was issued a show-cause notice on October 20 owing which it furnished reply that it has done nothing illegal. Not satisfied with the reply, a joint inspection was conducted today at the site. IDCO’s Land Officer, officials from BDA, BMC and Kalarahanga Tehsil office and OTV representatives were present during the verification process.
After verification, it came to light that OTV was alloted 0.835 acre land at Chandaka Industrial Estate by IDCO in 2007. The patch comprised of four plots (N 28, 29, 30, 31).
The officials found that, OTV encroached 12980 sq ft land around its campus in subsequent years which were never allotted to it.
A portion of its corporate office now stands on the illegally acquired land apart from its teleport installed on the premises, the official sources added.
Worth mentioning, land grab slur on OTV is nothing new. Earlier also land grab allegations were levelled against the channel for its studio at Sarua.
It now remains to be seen what action IDCO takes against BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda’s family owned media house.
