Panel on development of mutts soon: SJTA chief

Puri: Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee has decided to form a sub committee for renovation of religious institutions like mutts.

The managing committee today met under the chairmanship of Gajapati Maharaja of Puri Divya Singh Deb.

Apart from security and beautification of the 12th century shrine, the committee also proposed the state government to launch five developmental projects, including demarcation of chariot path (Ratha Danda) as a heritage corridor, a park at Jagannath Ballav, peripheral development of the Jagannath temple, development of Gundicha temple and a model Gugukul for training servitors.

The children of servitors who are enrolled in other schools will also get government scholarship, said Shree Jagannath Temple Administration Chief Administrator, Krishan Kumar.

Dr. Kumar said the proposed sub-committee for the development of mutts, will coordinate between the mutts in Puri and the temple administration.

Further, the members resolved that Lord Jagannth’s Ratha Jatra should be conducted across the world on one date according to the Hindu Almanac.
