Bhubaneswar (TF Bureau): Since start of July, COVID19 cases are increasing in Odisha, particularly in Ganjam district.
Concerned over the recent spike in positive cases, the state government today rushed as many as 8 bureaucrats to this southern Odisha district to manage the situation.
Works Department Deputy Secretary Parul Patawari has been appointed as Special ADM of Ganjam in-charge of Chatrapur Sub-division and PD DRDA of Puri Vishal Singh has been appointed as Special ADM of Ganjam in-charge of Bhanjanagar Sub-division, a notification from General Administration and Public Grievance Department said.
These two IAS officers have been transferred to Ganjam in addition to six other OAS officers. They are: Sudhakar Nayak, Padmanav Behera, Lokanath Dalabehera, Shaktikanta Ray, Chittaranjan Mohanta and Suvendra Kumar Samal.
These officials have been directed to report to the Ganjam Collector at the earliest.
The Corona situation is alarming in Ganjam as 20 persons have died from the highly infectious disease in less than two months. In the last four days, 9 deaths have been reported due to virus.
As per state Health department data, the number of positive cases has increased to 8601 with 2694 active cases. Today, a whopping 495 cases were reported from the state, with Ganjam again leading the chart with 2066 positive cases. On the other hand, 216 positive cases were reported from the district today.
Of the five deaths reported today, three were from Ganjam which depicts the severity of spread in the district.
The huge influx of migrant labourers from several states is said to be a major factor behind spurt in positive cases in the district.
Apart from people at quarantine centres and temporary medical centres (TMCs), several policemen and healthcare professionals also contracted the virus while on duty.
Yesterday, a tragic incident happened in Kabisuryanagar where parents of a COVID19 positive patient hanged themselves after coming to know about their son’s demise.
Their 27-year-old son was deputed for Covid duty where he got infected. After complaints of breathing problem, the youth was shifted to a private hospital for treatment where he breathed his last.
