Balasore: Two employees of a government-run residential school were thrashed for alleged extramarital relationship at a school in Odisha’s Balasore district.
Tension prevailed at Hasanpur village under Sadar block here after the Headmaster was taken to task by villagers for having illicit relationship with a female staff of the school.
The girl students alleged that the Headmaster Rajeev Lochan Patra was involved in an illicit relationship with the Hostel Superintendent.
Protesting this, the girl students locked the main gate of the school and sat on a dharna demanding their transfer. Later, locals, including women intervened and dragged both of them on road and thrashed them.
A man who identified himself as Gajendra Bhuiyan dragged Patra on the school premises, hurled abuses at him and manhandled the latter.
“We had been complaining since long that the duo is having an affair. But, the DWO turned a deaf ear. In the name of inquiry at school, he comes and eats mutton curry and rice. The situation went out of hand forcing us to teach them a lesson,” said Bhuiyan.
One of the girl students claimed that she saw the teacher coming out of the woman’s room today which seemingly confirmed her doubts.
Despite having internal examination today, the students joined the protest.
Later, District Welfare Officer (DWO) reached the spot and rescued the two from the villagers’ clutch. They assured the villagers that he will look into the matter. However, the accused Headmaster refuted the allegations.
