Trainer aircraft crashes in Odisha; instructor, trainee killed
Dhenkanal (TF Bureau): A two-seater aircraft during routine training sortie crashed this morning killing two on the spot. This incident happened at Birasal airstrip of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
A female trainer and a male instructor died in the mishap, sources said.
The deceased were identified as one captain Sanjeev Kumar Jha of Bihar and the other is trainee pilot Anis Fatima of Tamil Nadu.
Getting information local police and fire brigade rushed to the spot and rescued the duo. Later, they were taken to the Kamakhyanagar hospital where doctor declared them brought dead. Their bodies were sent for autopsy.
Sources further said, every day 40 students from the flying institute get trained in Government Aviation Training Institute (GATI) at Birasal airstrip here. They were trained on six aircrafts.
This morning, however, during training the pilot encountered a technical problem in the engine resulting in crash, sources added.
