Woman lecturer raped a month ago hangs self protesting police inaction

Baripada: A woman lecturer in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district allegedly raped a month ago was found hanging in the hostel room last evening.

The woman posted as Physics lecturer in Rairangpur College was appointed on contractual basis.

She had, a month ago, filed a complaint with Jharpokharia police against a person from Keonjhar of raping her. However, police allegedly did not take any action.

Following the development, Mayurbhanj SP has suspended Jharpokharia police station SI Deepak Swain on charges of dereliction of duty.

On the other hand, police today arrested prime accused Soumya Ranjan Sahu from Dhanmandal in Jajpur district based on complaint by victim’s father. Sahu works as a Gangman in Railways, at Keonjhar.

Earlier in the day two more accused Debabrata Mandal and Sujit Mandal were arrested.

The father of the deceased had named six persons in his complaint of having complicity in the crime. He had alleged that it was a case of murder, not suicide.
