Bhubaneswar: The dairy farmers are one of the worst affected lots in Odisha who are bearing the brunt of price rise.
The farmers have been demanding for increase in procurement of milk, but in vain.
Five years ago, the prices were revised last and in these years the cattle feed, veterinary medicines and other things have also shot up.
When private milk producers are increasing price no one is raising voice. But when state’s only milk cooperative hikes price, there is widespread protest, said a farmer who had come to attend a workshop in Krishi Bhawan here.
In last five years, the prices of various products have increased by 40 percent but the milk prices have remained same. Those who are protesting the price rise are anti-farmers, said a Bargarh farmer Anam Sai.
The government approves price hike of liquor as it is getting huge excise revenue whereas it is opposed to revise milk procurement rate, alleged a farmer.
